…but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind,….I press toward the mark…
Philippians 3:13,14
God’s calling to Paul is to know his will, to see the righteous one and to hear his voice, to witness everyone of what Paul has seen and heard. Paul’s urge is to walk in a manner worthy of God’s calling, with humility, patience, bearing one another in love and eager to maintain the unity of spirit in the bond of peace.
If anyone thinks they have a reason for confidence in the flesh, Paul has more. Paul suffered the loss of all things and counted them as rubbish in order to gain Christ and to execute God’s will. He is forgetting what he has done in the past and running toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God. Towards the end of his life, with great confidence, Paul said that he fought a good fight and finished his race, kept his faith and waiting for the crown of righteousness.
Can you and I have that confidence by the end of our journey on this earth? God’s coming or we leaving, whichever happens first, we need to fulfill our calling worthily and reach the goal to receive the prize on the day of Jesus Christ.
Lord! I love you. Equip me to do your will and finish my race to receive the crown of righteousness. You know my weakness, strengthen me to fight a good fight to witness your work on the cross.
In Jesus name. Amen
