We according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
–2 Peters 3:13
Summary of 2 Peters chapter 3:
1. St Peter drawing towards the conclusion of his second epistle, begins this last chapter with repeating the account of his design and scope in writing a second time to them, 2 Peters 3:1-2
2. He proceeds to mention one thing that induced him to write this second epistle, namely, the coming of scoffers, whom he describes, 2 Peters 3:3-7
3. He instructs and establishes them in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to judgment, 2 Peters 3:8-10
4. He sets forth the use and improvement which Christians ought to make of Christ’s second coming, and that dissolution and renovation of things which will accompany that solemn coming of our Lord, 2 Peters 3:11-18
Today’s Verse:
Peter tells us that the very elements of this world order will be dissolved. God promised through Isaiah (Isaiah 65:17) that he would genuinely make a new heavens and a new earth.
we are not those who await judgment; we await God’s salvation. The destruction of this present creation is a necessary step in preparation for the “new heavens and a new earth” which are to come.
The destruction of this creation in the Day of the Lord is like the demolition of an old building to make a way for the construction of a new one in its place.
Our hope is not just for God’s judgment but for the kingdom He will bring in which righteousness dwells. And since that kingdom is one characterized by righteousness, we should live in a manner consistent righteously.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, In your strong hands, I place my life today; choosing to depend on you to light and guide my way.Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be. Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart.
Father, remember brothers and sisters who are looking for jobs, marriage matches, painless deliveries by pregnant ladies and who are sick and travelling. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
