-1 Chronicles 17:2
Summary of 1 Chronicles chapter 17:
1. David consults Nathan about building a temple for God, 1 Chronicles 17:1-2.
2. God sends him an answer by Nathan, informing him that Solomon shall build the house, 1 Chronicles 17:3-14.
3. David receives the Divine purpose with humility and joy, and gives Godpraise, 1 Chronicles 17:15-27.
Today’s Verse:
David lived in an expensive, beautiful home. When he remembered that the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under tent curtains, the contrast bothered him. David was troubled by the thought that he lived in a nicer house than the ark of the covenant.
Without saying the specific words, David told Nathan that he wanted to build a temple to replace the tabernacle. More than 400 years before this, when Israel was in the wilderness, God commanded Moses to build a tent of meeting according to a specific pattern (Exodus 25:8-9).
God never asked for a permanent building to replace the tent, but now David wanted to do this for God.Nathan was no sooner aware of David’s good design than he bade him go and do all that was within his heart , for he had no reason to doubt but that God was with him in it. David’s heart was filled with this question: “What can I do for God?” He was so filled with gratitude and concern for God’s glory that he wanted to do something special for God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thanks for the day and it is all your mercy. we want to pray together for our church family, for friends, and for our world.
We ask to teach us how to pray—not just “Bless us,” and “Give us,” but really how to talk to You as a friend and as our Father, to focus on You and get to know You better, as well as each other.
Help us not to be embarrassed as we take turns praying and not to worry about what words to say or how it sounds. You love honest and submissive hearts, and we want to pray that way together. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
