The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Be clean and change your garments

Put away strange gods that are among you and be clean, and change your garments. Genesis 35:2.
Jacob called for a time of cleansing for everybody (household and everyone who were with him) and the first thing they had to do was get rid of their idols. we see in previous chapters, Rachel had stolen idols from her father’s house ( Genesis Chapters 31, 34,35). Washing the body and changing clothes symbolizes making a new beginning. Sin is defiling and must be washed away. (Psalm 51:2). Our old garments represent our old life with its failures. ( Isaiah 64:6- filthy rags) but God in His mercy gave us “new garments” so that we can make a fresh beginning. We see in the life of the prodigal son, the father told his servants to bring quickly the best robe (Luke 15:22).
We see in the lives of Israelites also, before He gave the law to them, He ordered the people to wash and change clothes, for they were about to enter into a solemn covenant with Him (Exodus 19:9-15).
Hope for today: God is willing to wash and cleanse us from our all unrighteousness. the question is, are we willing for God to work in our lives?
