"And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me." -2 Kings 2:9
Today’s Verse:
Before the great prophet Elijah was taken up into the heavens directly, Elijah walked in to the Jordan waters along with Elisha and smote the water to part the waters so as to walk over on dry ground to reach other side of the Jordan just like Moses (Exodus 14:21) and Joshua (Joshua 3:13) as ones whom God used to miraculously part waters.
After reaching the other side of the Jordan Elijah asks Elisha that what he can do for Elisha before he is taken away by GOD’s Angels from him. In fact, it was a big offer to Elisha. He did not ask for wealth but he asked for a double portion of the mighty spirit of Elijah. He was not asking that he might be twice as great as Elijah, Elisha asked for the right to be regarded as the successor of Elijah, as his firstborn son, as in Deuteronomy 21:17, in regard to ministry.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the day, bowing you in my heart. Creator of all, Sustainer of all, Saviour of all, Your glory and majesty are beyond our understanding, Your power too awesome to behold. And yet your love enfolds us like a gentle breeze.
