"The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot." -Prov 10:7
Today’s Verse:
In the entire Prov 10 chapter, Solomon contradicts Righteous and the Wicked. In fact, the proverb is the Hebrew word “mashal” which means comparison, similar or parallel. Today’s verse refers to the way a righteous person is remembered by man and God after his death. The blessings of the Lord are for those who live uprightly. You never find monuments built for the wicked.
Upright people are remembered in a favorable way both during their lifetime and after their death. In view of the corrupt practices of the wicked, their name, reputation, or any memory of them prove to be like the stench from decaying matter. Eventually, no memory of them will remain as if their name had rotted way, with no more mention being made of them.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thanks for this Memorial Day. On this day, I pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless and comfort the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace.
In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict (like US and Iran) around the globe.
