The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Commandment to Joshua

"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." -Josh.  1:8

Today’s Verse:

The context is after the death of Moses Joshua was supposed to lead the Israel people. But Joshua was overwhelmed, weak, & timid. GOD himself Commanded Joshua to lead the people and cross Jordan to go to the promised land. He promised to be with Joshua as he was with Moses and assures victory in all battles. He advises to read and follow the book of GOD’s Law and meditate.

The victory and possession of the land which follows is a direct result of the hearing, reading and applying the Word of God. Whenever any believer begins to turn away from the Word of God through indifference or apathy for whatever reason, he is turning away from the Lord and embracing to defeat.

And this commandment was not for Joshua alone but for you and me and every other servant and follower of the Lord as well, for "For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our learning" (Rom. 15:4) and obedience.

Once every seven years, the whole Book of the law was to be read in the hearing of the entire congregation of Israel: "that they may hear, and learn to fear the Lord their God, and observe to do all the words of this law" (Deut. 31:10-14). This was the Book which was to regulate Joshua's actions.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thanks for this day once again. Oh..Lord, I am indebted to you forever for your uncompromised love. It is because of you I am always victor over all my trials in my life. Give me more hunger and thirst to read the word of God and apply Your word in my daily life. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
