“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work.” Titus 3:1
Submission requires love, respect and a willingness to yield to another. Obedience, on the other hand, doesn't require any personal relationship between the one giving the "command" and the one obeying the command. God’s word commands believers to do both, Subject and Obey the rulers and authorities. Paul tells us in Romans 13 that governing authority was God’s idea, and that it was established by God. The word “submit,” or “subjection” as it’s used in Romans 13, means to willingly place oneself under the authority of another. We are to willingly place ourselves under governing authorities as God’s design and obey the laws of our country, state, county, city, and organization. As long as they do not contradict the Bible, to disobey governing authority is to disobey God. To be ready for every good work means we are to live our lives looking for opportunities to be an influencer, remembering that we are first and foremost followers of Jesus.
Being under the Lordship of Jesus Christ is the key to subject and obey rulers and authorities.
