The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Hunger for God!

They need not depart, give ye them to eat”. (Matthew 14:16).

The feeding of the five thousand is the only miracle of Jesus recounted in all four gospel books. It illustrates Jesus’ authority over nature and his divine intervention on behalf of others, showing that He is concerned about the humans’ physical and spiritual needs.

Jesus gestured towards a few birds flying by- look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your Heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? (Matt. 6:26). So, Jesus takes care of all our needs, as mentioned in (Phil. 4:6-7).

Jesus talks about not only the physical hunger but also spiritual hunger, in the sermon on the mount to communicate a blessed appetite for a particular pursuit; Righteousness. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.“ (Matt. 5:6). Jesus offers, “whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst .“(John 6:35) because Jesus is the Bread of life.

To hunger for righteousness is to yearn for God’s rule in our lives(Matt.  6:33). It is to have a thirst for God’s word and the company of the godly. This hunger leads us to uproot our sin by the power of the Holy Spirit and become more like Jesus, Which is called sanctification.
