“Sing for joy to God our strength; shout joyfully to the God of Jacob.” (Ps. 81:1).
The Lord was the strength of his people in delivering Israel out of Egypt with a high hand, and also in sustaining them in the wilderness, placing them in Canaan, preserving them from their foes, and giving them victory. To whom do men give honor but to those upon whom they rely, therefore let us sing aloud unto our God, who is our strength and our song. "Make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob."

One thing that is emphasized throughout the psalms is that our love and gratitude for God and His salvation should be reflected in our praise. The psalmists often call for singing and shouting for joy. (Ps. 98:4)
God’s joy is the catalyst we need to strengthen us each day and satisfy our souls for the long haul. The joy of the Lord is not dependent on external circumstances, but an internal assurance that God is for us at all times. Despite our previous track record, the good news is the joy of the Lord energizes our spirit to press forward. Joy is a fruit of God’s spirit that is available to us. (Gal. 5:22)
