I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them – Isa 61:8
I will direct their work in truth – God is saying, He will direct and make Israelites to walk in truth and spirit (John 4:23) in opposition to carnal nature of the ceremonial law.
Everlasting covenant – Our God is a covenant making and covenant keeping God. In old testament, we see God’s covenant with Israel. The law given at Mt. Sinai was a conditional covenant that was based on Israel’s obedience (Exodus 19:5-8) and it was also temporary (Galatians 3:23-25). When Messiah reigns, He will make a new covenant with Israel which will be “everlasting” (Isaiah 55:3; 59:21). This “everlasting covenant” will be unconditional because it’s based solely on Christ’s finished work (Luke 22:20; Hebrews 9:15-18).
New covenant has a transforming power that the law never had (Jeremiah 31:31-34; 32:37-44). New covenant was fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for transforming our hearts and enabling us to worship you in truth and spirit. Please order our steps. In Jesus name I pray – Amen!!
