The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Not alone in God’s calling

I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; Acts 18:10
The Lord appeared to Paul in his dream to comfort him in the midst of opposition that arose from Jews in Corinth due to Paul preaching the gospel. Paul’s experience tells us that fear is common to man. Paul was God’s man faithfully fulfilling God’s calling when God promised His protective care. This passage portrays that God had a purpose to save many of his people. This task was given to Paul and as an encouragement to him to preach gospel God is assuring Paul that He would grant him success in his work.
The latter part of the verse is the reason the Lord gives “because I have many people in this city.” These people have not yet heard the Gospel. As written in 2 Peter 3:9, the Lord does not want anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance. Commentators mention that Paul was greatly strengthened, and for a year and a half Paul was able to preach the gospel until there was a great stirring in the city. What an assurance for us to boldly follow God’s calling to reach out to unbelievers with the gospel of hope and redemption by being confident in His promise to be with us always
