The Lord preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me. Psalms 116:6
This psalm is one of the thanksgiving psalms for being delivered from some life threatening situations. It might have been an illness or poverty or something else but the description was open-ended enough to apply to any number of horrible situations in life. No matter what pain the psalmist is going through, the focus is on the fact that the Psalmist turned to God in time of distress. God loved the psalmist enough to respond in the moment of deepest need. He found that the Lord was gracious, righteous, and compassionate. He personally experienced the reality of this in his own life. He experienced the touch of the Lord upon his own life.
We are valuable to God. In our suffering and distress the world may not view us as special, needed or valuable but God sees us as we really are worthy. It is important to view ourselves the way God views us; valuable.
