The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

God is King

O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy. Psalms 47:1

The psalm for today is one that praises God as the sovereign of all creation. In verse 1 the writer makes this psalm personal to all of us. When he writes “all peoples,” it becomes very personal and very relevant to us because now we are a part of it. The psalmist has invited us into a celebration and a time of worship. He is saying that there is something to be excited about that we must be clapping and shouting with joy. The reason is God is King over all the earth.

The psalmist tells us that he is the Lord most high. There is no one above him. He is the King of kings, Lord of lords and the One true God. For that very reason, we should be in awe and in a place of amazement that causes us to clap and shout. Recognizing God as King is the foundational truth that we as believers stand on. It impacts how we view God’s Word, whether as just a historical book or the very authority that we place our lives under.
