This is the word of the Lord that came to Abraham in a vision right after he defeated the heathen kings to rescue his nephew Lot. The verse also says "Do not be afraid". Why would Abraham be afraid? Perhaps he feared revenge from the kings he had just defeated. God gave him 2 good reasons for courage.

1. He promised to defend Abraham. ( I am your shield)
2. He promised to be Abraham's "Very great reward".
In today's world, Fear can be fear of death or fear of loneliness or fear of the unknown or you name it. Fear blinds us to realise that there's hope on the other end. It has an agenda of destroying man in every way.
When you fear what lies ahead, remember that as God promised Abraham He will shield you through difficult times and He has promised you a great reward. May we put our Trust in His promises.
