The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Place of Refuge

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;” – Psalm 27:5

Psalm 27 is a Psalm of David, but the context in which it was written is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible. This Psalm describes the troubles which David faced when he wrote it. He was in a war like situation surrounded by enemies. But David did not fear because he trusted the LORD for his safe keeping. David desired to dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of his life and to enjoy His security.

In the ancient Middle East culture, when a visitor entered the tent of the host, it was the host’s responsibility to protect his visitor and so the tent became a fortress, a place of refuge for the visitor! Like David, let us also seek the LORD and enter into His tent of dwelling, for He alone is our refuge and fortress, our ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
