David’s family was taken captive, lost his possessions, people spoke of stoning him, his distress was beyond imagination. He was at his lowliest moments of his life. At this condition, it’s natural that anyone might fall into self-pity, complain, or be depressed. But we see in today’s verse that, ”David strengthened himself in the LORD his God”.
He preached to his own soul, to look to the LORD and to trust in HIS mercies. He trusted that the Salvation comes from the Lord and he can rest in his Word. We can find proof of this all throughout the book of Psalms.
Whatever trials we are facing, even if we are in our lowliest moments of our life, gather your strength to preach your own soul, to look to the Lord for His strength. For HIS strength is made perfect in our weakness.
Remember, right after this appointed trial in David’s life, he was anointed as king over Judah. Our trials are followed by victories, and our victory is already won on the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ!
