On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” John 7:37
The feast mentioned here is the ‘Feast of Tabernacles', a time of thanksgiving for the harvest, a happy time where Jews lived in outdoor booths for 7 days, and each morning during feast there was a procession from the temple mount to the pool of Siloam for a pitcher of water. A priest would fill a gold pitcher with water and pour them into a silver basin by the altar. During this celebration, Israelites thanked God for the provision of water during their 40 years of the wilderness journey. On this very scene, Jesus came crying out to dry and thirst souls living in the ‘wilderness of this world’ to remind them that He was that smitten Rock in the wilderness from which the Living waters gushed out and gave spiritual drink to their ancestors (1 Cor. 10:4). However, the people have forsaken the fountain of Living water In Infront of them and constructed their own cisterns and systems of Law-keeping. No religious activity can satisfy our spiritual thirst. Even as Jesus was the Source of physical water in the Old Testament, He declares that He is the Source of spiritual water in the New testament. In doing so, Jesus showed that He is the ultimate fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles!
If we believe Him as the Source of Living Water, we are privileged to worship Him not only on earth but also at the Millennial Feast of Tabernacles celebrating the ingathering of souls into His glorious Kingdom!
