Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16
The church is not a physical building, it refers to the people who have been redeemed by The Lord Jesus Christ. The foundation of the church is Jesus Christ. The work of building is accomplished not only through those such as Paul, Apollos, and Cephas, but also through every member of the Body. It must be built with high-quality materials like the right doctrine and right living that meet God’s standards. In the church built on Jesus Christ, each member would be mature, spiritually sensitive, and doctrinally sound. However, the Corinthian church was filled with those whose work was “wood, hay, straw,” members who were immature, vulnerable to wrong doctrines. Just as our bodies are a “temple of the Holy Spirit”, the local church is God’s temple, the church is not to be spoiled and not to be ruined by divisions, controversy or other sins as members come together to worship God. On the day of judgment, Christ will evaluate each person’s work with the test of fire, unfaithful or inferior work will be burned up, eternally saved but laying up no treasure in heaven, faithful and good work will be rewarded.
Are you building your life on the only real and lasting foundation or on a faulty foundation such as wealth, security, success, or fame? May God help us to introspect if our Christian character can stand the test?
