Today’s Psalm teaches us a few essential qualities a believer would need.
Praise (1-4): The Psalmist here starts off with Worshipping & praising God. He reminds various tribes that our God is everlasting & merciful. Before we put our petitions, let us Praise God for who he is.
Pray (5): Distress & hard-pressed circumstances come upon us, so we may lean upon the Lord. As Human beings, during stressful situation, the walls of our strength start to close in soon; but when we cry out to our lord, He hears and then places us in an Open/Large/Safe place. Often times, we go to open places, for a breath of fresh air and calmness. Our Lord does the same, in the storm. He gives us the peace that passes understanding.
Refuge/Trust (6-9): we see here that the psalmist after Praise, Prayer (& Peace), starts to trust in God and makes him his refuge. He reminds himself to trust in God and not in himself or princes. Let us trust in God and lean not on our own understanding.
Act (10-12): Then the Psalmist looks at his enemies and quietens his heart, by cutting them off in the name of the Lord. After our quiet times, it is very important that we act Valiantly. Trials should not shake us, but faith should shake the fear of our trial. Exo 14:14
So then brethren, maybe there is a Goliath walking towards us or a storm brewing on the horizon, Let us then – Praise, Pray, Trust, Act.
