Therefore comfort one another with these words – 1 Thess 4:18
What are those few words ?
In context, We see in I Thes 4:13-18 primarily talks about death. To be precise – Death of loved ones who are in Christ. We surmise the Christians of Thessalonica might have been facing a lot of rumors & false teachings. This is when Paul corrects/encourages them.
In many Versions, the term Dead is actually replaced with Asleep. There is a stark difference between dead and asleep & it should give us great Hope. Paul mentions that when Jesus returns(rapture), he will raise those who are asleep in Christ – first , and those who are alive will follow. With these truths, We must comfort one another and should not grieve as the heathen do, who have no Hope.
The term “One another” occurs many times in the bible and is primarily used to encourage fellow believers (koi
nonia).
Some instances:
accept one another (Romans 15:7),
serve one another in love (Galatians 5:13),
love one another (1 Peter 1:22) & so on.
Let us encourage & comfort one another.
Lastly , Death can be thought of as separation. Physical death separates our body from our soul/spirit, while spiritual death separates our soul from God. Jesus taught that we ought not to fear physical death, but we should be most concerned about spiritual death. Luke 12:4-5
Have you placed faith in Christ Yet ?
