To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him. Daniel 9:9
The context of this verse is when the children of God have been enslaved to the empire of Babylon and it is through the prophet Jeremiah’s word from God that Daniel knows that the bondage of the Israelites will not last forever. The children of God were enslaved because of their disobedience. However, the love of God chooses to chasten them instead of abandoning them. Daniel reminds us that God still loves us and gives us innumerable chances. The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving. It is only because of the mercy and forgiving nature of our God that we have not been consumed and still have a chance to right our wrongs.
God’s nature is to forgive and be merciful to His children. He is a God of love. Therefore, we must repent of our sins and know that God will forgive us. God’s mercy outlasts everything. It endures forever. Every time we falter and lose our way, He is there to guide us back. He does not bear a grudge against us when we go wrong, rather He is a loving father who is waiting with open arms when we realize and repent of our sins.
