….Peace be to you, peace to your house, and peace to all that you have! 1 Samuel 25:6
This verse is the ancient form of sending greetings to a friend. When David’s men went to meet with Nabal they greeted him saying that prosperity and peace be upon their family, estates, cattles and farms. It is said that David’s purpose for having his men meet with Nabal is to do business with him because it was the sheep shearing season. So, he sends his men to negotiate with Nabal that they may be given wool in payment of David’s protection over the shepherds Nabal sent to him. David wanted to bless Nabal with his business but Nabal rejects David’s offer and gets killed by David
The Hebrew word “shalom” has a meaning that is deep and rich. Peace, completeness, prosperity, safety, contentment, health, blessing, and rest are all apportioned to the meaning of this remarkable word. Let us all not be like Nabal and reject peace. Instead, let us invite and receive God’s peace into us, our houses and all that we have by growing stronger in the Lord day by day. In John 20:21, Jesus says, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, I also send you”. Let us all be able to experience His peace immensely in our lives.
