I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalms 34:1
This Psalm was written by David after a stormy season in his life. He is running for his life when he learns that King Saul intended to kill him. He faced dangers on his way and even pretended to be crazy before King Abimelech so he would let him go. This Psalm is David’s reminder to focus our hearts to praise God even in the storm, even when we are in the midst of battle and running for our lives.
It is hard to praise God when life is hard, but God wants us to rejoice in him even when we are troubled. Our focus is on our problems, and we cannot see all God’s blessings in our lives. We are worried and fearful; our hearts are not full of joy and praise. Yet, this verse is a reminder that this is when we need to focus our hearts and minds and souls on praising God. Let us surround ourselves with reminders of God’s glory. Acknowledge God’s glory when we see it. It is not just the big things but in the little things as well.
