God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. – Psalms 46:1
This psalm may have been composed after the king David defeated the enemies of ancient Israel from surrounding lands.
The Bible tells us that God is our place of safety and protection from danger and distress. A refuge is a place where we go and get protected because our refuge surrounds us as our defense. King David says, “For You have been a refuge for me, A tower of strength against the enemy“(Psalm 61:3). King Solomon says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe“(Proverb 18:10).
The verse says that God is our strength. We who are God's people can receive, experience, and apply God's strength to face our enemies such as worry, fear, discouragement, and opposition.
The word “present” means proven. It means GOD” s help is proven(definite) when we are in trouble. Then we have nothing to fear.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thanks for hearing my prayers. Please make your comforting presence with us. Show us you are near and strong for us in all different ways, small ways and big ways. Thank you that you promise your presence and power when trials find us. You will never leave us or forsake us. You are with us and for us. Thank you! Amen.
