Thus far the LORD has helped us. 1 Sam. 7:12
Setting up stones to commemorate significant events has been a part of the Jewish culture. Samuel took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Shen to celebrate the victory over the Philistines. He named it Ebenezer (which means “the stone of help”), for he said, “Thus far the LORD has helped us!”
In the context of this chapter, the Philistines came to attack Israelites. They were afraid of the Philistines when they heard about the news (1 Sam 7:7). But Samuel asked Israelites to confess and asked them to “return to the LORD” and “serve Him only” to see the victory (7:3). As they confessed and turned to LORD, they saw victory.
I bet each one of us has faced diversified enemies, including Pandemic, in this year 2021. As Ebenezer God has helped us, how many stones of help can you commemorate? Let us all count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done!
