The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart

“Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them” – Deuteronomy 11:16

As the people of Israel were getting ready to step into the promised land, Moses gave them a stern warning and instructed them to be careful so that their hearts are not deceived to follow and serve false gods. The heart of the matter is the matter of the heart! Jeremiah the prophet recorded that “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” Satan knows our weakest spots and that’s where he tempts us. For Israel, it's worshiping false gods. Yet we all have “gods” of some kind that we struggle with. Anything that is given a higher priority than God, becomes a god.

The only way a believer can keep from falling for these false beliefs is to be careful and alert, examining their lives. Being filled with God’s Holy Spirit will help us to be careful and not to be deceived into worshiping false gods.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” – Matthew 22:37
