My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went. Num. 14:24
Caleb was one of the spies sent by Moses to survey the land of Canaan. Though the land was filled with giants and seemed impossible to conquer yet Caleb trusted in God’s mighty power and gave a positive report to Moses. This led to God’s decision on sending only 2 of them into the promised land and the young generation who have not rebelled.
Caleb’s boldness rested on the greatness of God rather than confidence in Israel’s ability to conquer the promised land. He did not want to disagree with God so he could not agree with the majority. He did not bother to rely on the expert’s voice. He gave prominence to God in trusting His mighty power. The God who gave Caleb a different spirit of boldness is the same God who can help us through life’s challenges too. May the Lord be with us.
