The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

The four traits

With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2

In this verse Paul is urging not only the Ephesians but all believers to live a life worthy of Christ’s calling and includes here four of how believers can do that.

First is lowliness which means to live in humility. Christ called us to have the humility of a child. In Matthew 23:12 it says “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Jesus lived a humble life on earth and we as His followers ought to live in humility.

Second is to live with gentleness. Gentleness is one of the fruits of the Spirit. Gentleness helps to control anger and avoid unnecessary conflict. Gentle ones have the strength and power of the Spirit to turn the other cheek because they trust in the Lord.

Third is to live with longsuffering. Some translations write it as patience, which is also one of the fruits of the Spirit. Patience is necessary to show love to others as the Word says love is patient.

Fourth trait is for believers to bear one another in love for in so doing we demonstrate the love of Christ being lived through us. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 says the greatest of all gifts is love.” A feeling which does not result in action is not biblical “love.”

Let us be encouraged to live a life worthy of Christ’s calling by practicing the four traits.
