For the Lord is our judge,
the Lord is our lawgiver,
the Lord is our king;
he will save us. Isaiah 33:22
When Isaiah wrote this, Israel was a “Theocracy.” A system of government in which priests rule in the name of God. Isaiah is using that analogy to speak the divine reality. If you were to take this verse and replace it with one of the names of our Lord, it would be El Shaddai (Almighty God).
Lord is our judge; He only can rightly see what’s right and what’s wrong and can pass correct judgment. When it comes to us, although we were to be strictly judged because of our sinful condition, He took the judgment upon Himself, justified us through Jesus Christ, and saved us from eternal punishment.
Lord is our lawgiver; He only can establish the law which reveals to us how to lead our daily lives. He not only gave the law, but He also sent His Spirit to us, which helps us to discern every step of our lives.
Lord is our king; He only has the rightful claim to sit on the throne. A sovereign King. We are the subjects of this King; we belong to him.
That’s our position in Christ; undoubtedly, He will save us from the enemy schemes… because we are His people, and He is our El Shaddai (Almighty God).
Amen.
