And above all things have fervent love for one another,
for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
As believers and disciples of Jesus Christ, we must follow His example. Jesus loves us. We ought to love one another.
Sometimes, a fellow believer will hurt us knowingly or unknowingly, and it isn’t easy to love that person. Scripture says in Colossians 3:13, “bearing with one another, and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.”
Forgiving one another is only possible through fervent love. The word love that Peter used here is Agape Love, the highest form of love that is sacrificial and selfless that Jesus showed on the cross.
Jesus says in John 13:34, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” And continues, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples…(v35).
The true mark of a follower of Jesus Christ is a loving and forgiving heart. Let us forgive those who hurt us and repay them with the highest form of love.
May the Lord help us to show that highest form of fervent love for one another by forgiving one another. Amen.
