Brethren, do not be children in understanding; however, in malice be babes, but in understanding be mature. 1 Cor. 14:20
When I was talking to my non-christian friends, one person mentioned that his religion is the oldest in the world. However, their scriptures are cryptic and not in a human-readable form. I asked a simple question – if God gives His word, doesn’t He give in such a way that even a common man can understand?
To make all humans understand His Word, our God came into the world as Jesus and made His Word understandable to everyone. He also gave the written word, Logos, in all languages so that all can understand His word easily.
Here, the principle is the same. In today’s verse context, Paul is saying that it is immature to exercise some exotic spiritual gifts like the gift of tongues that no one can understand. Instead, it is mature to exercise gifts for the good of others. During this Christmas season, let us be more mature in understanding and bring the Gospel (good news) in an easily understandable manner to unbelievers.
