And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 1 John 5:11
Witness means “attestation of a fact or event.” The term witness or testimony is the main theme of this context. This witness is given by God and the Holy Spirit, and the witness about Jesus, and the witness is that “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. If this witness is coming from God, it must be true. If you know and believe the truth, the truth shall set you free.
Let us look at Jesus statements about eternal life:
When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus, Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
When Jesus was talking to the women at the well, Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14)
Jesus is the giver of perfect gifts in our lives. If you need “eternal life,” confess your sins and accept Him as your personal savior today.
