The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you (Num. 6:24,25)
God is the source of all blessings. At creation, He created Adam and Eve and blessed them with fertility and authority over the earth (Gen. 1:28-30). Right from this time, God has been blessing several people. God has blessed Abraham (Gen. 12:2) to become a great blessing. Through Him, God made a great nation that was Israel.
If ever a nation was blessed, it was the nation of Israel. God spoke to Moses to speak to Aaron and his sons to bless (the priestly blessing) the nation of Israel. If we look at today’s verse – the LORD bless you and keep you. Here, the root word of the “bless” is “barakh”, which alludes to God’s respectful provision, in other words, God will provide His children whatever they need. The root word of the “keep” is “shamar”, which means to guard and protect. In short, God provides and protects. The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you – which talks about receiving God’s unmerited favor.
The good news is that, through Jesus, everyone is invited to partake of God’s blessing. Let us all take the opportunity to tell the world about the blessing Christ has provided for everyone.
