I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:14
A sprinter or athlete does not win the game just by watching games, reading game plans, or cheering at the games. The sprinter should get into the ground, practice the game, and control the diet. He becomes a winning athlete by getting into the game and determining to win.
Similarly, instead of just reading God’s word, we need to get into action. We often appreciate the word but don’t apply it in our lives. Today’s verse talks about pressing toward the goal of the prize. If we ask the question – toward what goal is the sprinter pressing with such a spiritual determination? It is “the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Let us “press” toward the “goal” for the “prize” of the upward call to become Christlikeness.
