There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18
Fear and love are a contradiction in terms. The immeasurable strength that comes from the power of God’s perfect love overwhelms every negative influence of fear. In the life of a believer, fear is rendered powerless by love, which describes the character of God, for “God is love”. When the love of God penetrates a soul, no anxious thoughts can conquer the love of God within us.
“Love is the fruit of God’s Spirit”. It is a complete and confident assurance in our Father and His Word of truth. There is no fear in love, for God’s perfect love drives out all fear.
“God loves us with everlasting love”. We are not to fear the things of life or any death threat, for our confidence is in the Lord. Living out God’s love is a sign of our faith in Him.
May we never forget that perfect love is not selfish and immature but responsible and mature, which casts out fear. Let us continue to grow into the image of Christ so we can look forward to the future with joy rather than fear.
