The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot. Prov. 10:7
Death is certain for all both righteous and wicked. It is appointed for man to die once. However, what godly people leave behind is quite different from the legacy of the wicked. The influence of our lives will leave an imprint on all those the Lord has brought into our lives for us to touch. This proverb reminds us that our legacy will live far beyond us. If our lives are righteous, that legacy will be an ongoing blessing as the stories of our lives are passed on to future generations. On the other hand, if our lives have been given over to wickedness, our name will rot, and God will cut off the remembrance.
Today is Memorial Day. It is a day to remember. To reflect. To be reminded. It is a national holiday to honor those who have given their lives in war. Let’s thank God for the freedom we enjoy as a result of the extreme sacrifice made by so many of America’s sons and daughters for the sake of freedom.
