The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Impossible Promises

Jul 22nd, 2023:

Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you Gen. 18:14

Our God is the God of impossibilities. Nothing is impossible with him. We as humans cannot understand. Even after the Lord promises, we might still have fears, doubts, or anxious moments. When the Lord promised a son in Abraham and Sarah’s old age of 99 and 89, Sarah laughed. That is most of us. When something is not driven by our human reasoning, we doubt and eventually lead ourselves to believe in the failure of a promise. God is reminding us today is anything too hard for him? Do you still doubt it?

God wants us to act out of faith. God wants us to believe on the promise and act. Abraham was first promised blessings of a being a great nation when he was 75 and was asked to move out to a land God would show. It was a conditional promise, on which Abraham acted out of faith. The fulfillment of that promise in terms of a son took 25 years even after Abraham kept his end of the promise. God tested his faith to the limits. Even after the birth of Isaac, the faith tests didn’t stop.

The Lord is already working on all his promises he promised to us. He says at the appointed time he will return to us; not to begin working, but to bring the promises to fruition. The Lord visited Sarah and she bore a child within the appointed time of an year.

This begs the question, what to do when the Lord has not promised us? Should we wait, pray, or ask God for a promise? Praying is definitely the way forward. We know that God can do all things. He can think about anything, and it can’t be stopped from being put into action. But he does things according to his pleasure (Ps. 115:3). It’s best to submit to his will. His plans and purposes for our lives are way better than ours. Like Jesus prayed in the garden: “Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
