Jul 24th, 2023:
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Ps. 23:6
In this Psalm of David, we find assurance in God leading us as a shepherd all throughout our lives. It gives hope and comfort to many people. David is convicted here that God’s goodness and mercy will follow him everywhere he goes. That could be in the green pastures beside the still waters or through the valley of shadow of death.
Goodness emanates from our God who is a good shepherd. He is kind and gracious toward us, his sheep. He truly cares about us, every last one of us. He goes searching for the lost sheep until it is found. He is merciful towards us in our shortcomings. He forgives and gathers us in his mercy. He is slow to anger but abounding in mercy towards them who return to him.
We can rely on his goodness and can find strength in him on days of trouble. All throughout our lives we can see goodness in abundance. It overflows so much that we can taste it, be overjoyed, share it with others, and praise the Lord! Finally, David yearns, and is convicted that he will live in God’s house. A place which he loves, honors and desires to stay in. On earth, or in heaven!
Praise: Thank you Lord for your everlasting mercies and abundant goodness in my life. I too seek to dwell in your house, here and in heaven. In Jesus name, Amen.
