The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Conversing, reasoning and Jesus

Jul 27th, 2023:

So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. Luke 24:15

People’s conversations are a good indicator of where their heart is. We can speak to people to strengthen and comfort them, or to hurt them. We can praise God through the fruit of the lips. We see the two disciples in this verse (on the road to Emmaus), conversing with each other about all the things that took place during and after the death of the Lord Jesus.

We as believers have many opinions and questions. We read from the scriptures and have a unique understanding of God. This is largely because he shapes our lives differently from others. We have a variety of perspectives. These two had such perspectives too. They couldn’t understand Jesus’ death. Their faith was shaken. They couldn’t understand Jesus’ resurrection! They were reasoning with each other and probably trying their best to understand the situation.

When they were reasoning and conversing, Jesus came and walked with them. He spoke with them and reasoned with them from the Scriptures. Just the same way they tried to reason among themselves. In their own way of understanding, Jesus proved himself to them. He explained the situation so that they could understand. He revealed himself to them in such a way that they could see the bigger picture.

Our key takeaways today are conversing, reasoning, and Jesus. We converse and are in fellowship with each other. We reason and build up each other’s faith. But more importantly, Jesus speaks to our hearts, in our own way of understanding.
