He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Prov. 28:13
God is our creator and He knows everything about us, our thoughts actions, motives, and words. We cannot hide our sins from God and pretend to God and others that nothing ever happened. Our sin will find us out. We are accountable for our sins one day.
Today’s verse talks about the danger and consequences of hiding sin in our lives. It blocks the mercy of God and damages our relationship with God. It hinders our spiritual growth. Concealing sin consumes us from the inside and makes us guilty. Rather, the correct way of dealing with a sin is to confess it to God, ask forgiveness, turn away from it, and stop doing it. The choice to prosper or suffer is in our hands.
1 Jn 1:9 says that, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. May the LORD help us to find any unconfessed sin in our lives and grant us strength to confess it and forsake it with a repentant and contrite heart. May we choose to do what is right and pleasing to God, so that mercy might flow in our lives and we might prosper.
