For he who has died has been freed from sin. Rom. 6:7
The foundational truth of a Christian is Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins. He paid the penalty of our sins on the cross. When we believe in Him and baptize unto Him by faith, in His death we are dead in our flesh, and in His resurrection, we are born again spiritually into the new life in Christ. Our bondage of sin is broken in our lives. The old sinful nature was redeemed and we are no more slaves to sin.
So can we consider ourselves sinless? No, as long as we are in the flesh on this earth, we struggle with sin and temptations. But it is through the power of the Holy Spirit inside of us that we can be overcomers. Sin has no dominion over us, the new life is controlled by the Holy Spirit God, who sanctifies us daily.
One day, we will be freed completely from the presence of sin, when Christ returns. Our physical bodies will be transformed into glorified ones. In expectation of that, while we are here on the earth, may take the step to resist our temptations and abide in His Word, always being conscious that we are dead to sin and alive to God through the righteousness of Christ Jesus.
