For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. Rom. 10:10
This passage teaches that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ and that this faith is expressed through belief in the heart and confession with the mouth. The mouth is the symbol of the conscious acknowledgment to ourselves of what we believe. Confessing Jesus as Lord means more than simply saying the words Jesus is Lord. To make a confession with our mouth that Jesus is Lord is to recognize that Jesus has the right to Lordship in our lives. Earlier to that we have been lord of our lives, and we have run our lives in our own way. But there comes a time, as God’s spirit works in us, that we see the reality of life.
When we confess Jesus as Lord, we are acknowledging his authority over our lives and trusting him as our Savior and Lord. This is a life-changing confession that brings us into a right relationship with God and gives us eternal life through His righteousness and not ours.
May the Lord convict us if we have not experienced the work of the cross in our lives yet.
Have a Blessed Day!
