I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever. Psalms 89:1
The Psalm begins with an attitude of praise in God’s mercy and faithfulness. Mercy here is GOD’s unfailing love which He promised to David. The Psalmist is so confident of God’s mercy and His faithfulness to His people, though there is a difficult phase he mentions later in the Psalm. Yet he recalls God’s covenant to David as he pours his heart to God.
Our Lord expresses his love and faithfulness in many ways. We can experience it through the love of family, friends or church. We can see his faithfulness in how he helps us through the difficult times in life. God extends his great mercy each time he forgives our sins. He expresses his closeness each time we read his Word. It is much easier to think about the things we do not have, or the times the Lord did not seem to answer our prayers, or the days when it seemed we could not find God. But, through it all, the one faithful God was always there. As said in Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”.
