The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

Open our eyes

LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes and they saw. 2 Kings 6:20

Elisha’s servant was looking but not seeing. He saw the army of Aram surrounding their town but he did not see the host of angels protecting God’s people. He was walking in spiritual blindness. We can be the same way seeing only disappointments, discouragements, and fear.

Elisha’s prayer is a great way to address our spiritual blindness. One of the most basic prayers we can pray is that God would open up our eyes to see the truth of the gospel. When our eyes are opened we see our shortcomings, fear and rebellion. And we see that Jesus has already won the victory for all our battles. When the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, “he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” These heavenly hosts were surrounding and protecting them. The servant’s fear disappeared. If God is on our side, who can stand against us?
