The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

I will be with you

Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. -Josh 1:5. The full verse is “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.”

This verse tells us of the encouraging promise that God gave to Joshua when he led the children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt and into the Promised Land. This precious promise is no less true for God’s people today, who have been rescued from  slavery to sin and subjection to Satan, than it was for His people who were in servitude to Pharaoh and slaves in the land of Egypt – and it all comes down to a matter of faith in God’s promises – of trusting His Word – of believing the truth of His Scripture.
Note that the Greek name Jesus simply translates the Hebrew name Joshua. Their names are identical. Whatever Israel received in the Promised Land, they received through the hand of Joshua; whatever we receive from God we receive through Jesus Christ, our Joshua.

Victory is assured not because Joshua is a great leader, or because Israel is a great nation, but because God is a great God, and He says to Joshua, I will be with you. This is enough for any man seeking to do God’s will.

The Christian can plant his feet on the same promise. Because we belong the Christ, we need never suffer defeat. No enemy can vanquish us, although in our flesh we are weak, although we are one against many in the world, although Satan is far stronger. In Christ we are invincible (Rom. 8:33-39). The issue being contested is our faith, and if our faith remains strong despite attacks and sufferings, we have triumphed over our enemies.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, This is the day that you have made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. With gratitude, I thank you for preserving my life for one more day. With gratitude, I thank you for your ultimate promise that you never forsake me. In the name of Jesus, Amen
