A promise is made to those who walk uprightly – they will receive every good thing God has for them. Those who walk uprightly are those whose faith is genuine, which leads to a life that aims at doing God’s will; no good thing does God withhold from them because they are living in his light.
The nature of this promise is apt under the Old Covenant, where God promised direct blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience whereas, under the New Covenant, the believer receives God’s good things based on Jesus’ goodness, and then goes on to walk uprightly. He will give us the means to walk along the paths, but we must do the walking. May God help us to walk uprightly with Him.
