The LORD has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling. Psalm 132:13

God who cautions and directs

Seek good and not evil, that you may live; Amos 5:14.
The Prophet Amos has written this chapter as a Lament against Israel. Amos urges Israel to seek the LORD in times of forthcoming judgement from God. He warns people to turn away from their evil ways.
The Cause:During this period people of Israel were seeking after their own will instead of God. There was injustice and lack of righteousness. They were offering sacrifices to God however their lives were far from obeying God’s will.
The Curse: The Prophet warns people that God does not want their ritualistic offerings & sacrifice ,while they still continue a life of doing injustice towards the oppressed. He warns that they would not be able to live in pleasure & peace from the wealth acquired by doing injustice to others. God’s judgment will come over them & it will be like a disaster for the wicked.
The Cure: Amos urges people to leave worshiping other idols in their lives and turn towards seeking after God, So that they may find grace from God and live. Through justice and righteousness he wants them to mend their ways back towards God.
Are we truly seeking good according to God or we are seeking evil which looks good to us according to our worldly desires. Today’s verse is reminding us to seek after God so that we may have life not only on earth but life eternal.
