Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth! Psalms 96:9
Worship is derived from the word woerthship which is to give worth or value to an object or person. In this verse, King David is praising God as he brings the Ark of the Covenant up to Jerusalem. It is portraying how the Israelites are giving their devotion to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For this God is the only one who is worthy of worship since He is the Creator of all things. This passage conveys God’s infinite power and holiness. Such a powerful and holy God deserves our worship to be one of awe and reverential fear. This worship is not for pleasure or to take it for granted, but an eternal satisfaction that will reveal the Lord’s goodness, presence and infinite love.
1 Chronicles 16:30 says Tremble before him, all the earth! Because of his distinctness and holiness, the proper response should be humility. When we get scared of so many earthly things, think about the fear we should have when we stand before the King of Kings, the Holy One who reigns and is superior overall the universe. While it is natural to fear God because of His power and holiness, He is also the one who comforts us when we are scared. Such a Holy God truly deserves our worship.
