Isaiah 12:2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
It is important for us to see the transition from the verse before to understand the context of today’s verse. “In that day” the people, who have suffered God’s judgment, will discover that God is no longer angry with them. God’s anger will turn to compassion and His judgment to words of comfort. His anger and judgment will have accomplished their purpose. Not only will God have punished the people for their sin, but their suffering will have prepared them for a new and faithful walk with their God.
Also, this verse is extraordinarily important because it begins and ends by acknowledging that God “is my salvation” and “has become my salvation.” Under the flawed leadership of Ahaz, Judah looked to Assyria for salvation—a hope that quickly turned sour as Assyria dominated Judah and turned it into a vassal state. However, they look forward to the day when Judah will rediscover the power of God to save them. God has offered true salvation as contrasted with the false salvation offered by the Assyrians.
“In that day” the people of Judah will come to their senses and recognize that it is God rather than external alliances that constitutes her real strength. Once their faith in their God has been renewed, they will no longer be afraid—their faith will deliver them from fear. King David has expressed this sentiment beautifully in his psalm 27, “the Lord is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?” The deliverance here anticipated is, like the Exodus, a second exodus, a theme to become prominent later in Isaiah. It will be this deliverance from exile that will restore their faith and give rise to their thanksgiving.
Today’s passage is of our thanksgiving and joy that must be heard throughout the world acknowledging the work of Christ in every aspect of our lives. He is our salvation and we are saved by His grace.
Promise: “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
Prayer: Dear Lord Heavenly Father mighty wonderful God. Lord, you are my wonderful salvation. Praise the Lord, for You are a great and mighty God. As I go into the world today as Your representative, give me boldness to speak the name of Jesus. May my life reflect Your grace and goodness, to Your praise and glory. In Jesus’s Holy Name, I pray Amen.
Have a blessed day!
